Dallas’ Story

As a foster child from a very young age, Dallas had a good feel for how people treat other people. Being a foster youth was devastating to him and at the age of 18, he aged out of the system. He was on his own and lost.

He attended Learn4Life for a time, but his heart wasn’t in it because he had some issues at home and ended up homeless. One day while sitting on his favorite bench and feeling very depressed, he contemplated his future. He didn’t know what he was supposed to do. He was tired of living outside, on the streets, worried about where he would sleep each night.

Suddenly his phone rang: It was a former acquaintance who told him that if he worked on getting his diploma, Dallas could stay with him and even go on to college if he wanted to continue his studies. Dallas knew if he didn’t try to apply himself to his studies he would be back on the streets. He soon re-enrolled at Learn4Life and got to work.

Finally having a roof over his head and the support he needed, he began to believe in himself. He realized that if he applied himself and worked hard he could graduate high school. He knew this could be his last chance and he didn’t want to end up back on the streets. He was all in.

Now Dallas is not another dropout statistic. He earned his diploma, took a chance on himself and changed his story and his future.
